Commitment to Safety 
Potomac Abatement, Inc. is committed to providing a healthy and safe environment for our employees on worksites.  Training, team work, and communication is essential in maintaining the highest of safety standards on every job site.  Our workers are trained in a variety of safety issues pertinent to the work being performed.  Adhering to OSHA Regulations is the framework in providing an accident free work environment.


Director of Safety 
Ten years prior to being employed by Potomac Abatement Dionisio “Nicho” Martinez worked in the well drilling industry.  In 2014 Mr. Martinez began working as our job site supervisor and held that position for five years.  One of his achievements was supervising our work crew on Phase 1 of the Smithsonian Institute National Air and Space Museum project.  An impressive work ethic along with his attention to detail and safety standards led Mr. Martinez in 2019 to be promoted to the Director of Safety for Potomac Abatement, Inc.  He is trained and holds the following certifications:

  • EM 385
  • OSHA 30
  • OSHA 510
  • Advanced Safety Certificate from National Safety Council
  • 40 Hour Construction Safety Hazard Awareness
  • Asbestos EPA AHERA Supervisor
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid
  • Scissor Lift
  • Construction/Extended Boom Forklift
  • Aerial Work Platform Operator Training – Boom Lift
  • Excavator
  • Bobcat
Mr. Martinez inspects job sites and performs safety reviews including reviewing and updating the Activity Hazard Analysis (AHAs).  He provides each worksite with the necessary safety updates as changes occur on the job site or in regulations.  Mr. Martinez provides an efficient and safe work environment by:
  • Maintaining the essential and proper safety equipment inventory
  • Communicating daily with Potomac’s worksite supervisors
  • Scheduling training classes for workers
  • Working closely with Potomac’s Certification & Licensing Specialist
  • Maintaining regular meetings to give updates and discuss important topics with operations department and project managers
  • Communicating with general contractors to keep the project on budget, on schedule, and accident free.

Training 
A training program is in place for Potomac Abatement, Inc. personnel.  Potomac Abatement personnel participate in training that includes but is not limited to:

  • New Hire Orientation
  • Site Specific Orientation
  • First Aid and CPR (if required)
  • Weekly Tool Box Safety Meetings
  • Specific Tool Orientation and Training Prior to Use
  • Equipment Training and Certification
  • Confined Space (if required)
  • Fall Protection (if required)
  • OSHA 10 Hour – Construction Safety
  • OSHA 30 Hour – Construction Safety
Workers complete a Four (4) Day – Thirty-two (32) Hour Initial Asbestos Abatement Worker Course with an accredited asbestos training provider.  Then once a year they attend an 8- hour EPA AHERA Asbestos Worker Refresher Course.

Supervisors complete a Five (5) Day – Forty (40) Hour Initial Asbestos Abatement Supervisor Course with an accredited asbestos training provider.  Then once a year they attend an 8-hour EPA AHERA Asbestos Supervisor Refresher Course.

The Training Program adheres to all applicable Federal and State rules and regulations including 40 CFR Part 61 and OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101.

Medical
Per the Medical Surveillance in 29 CFR 1926.1101(m) and 29 CFR 1910.1020 Potomac Abatement has implemented a medical surveillance program.  Potomac Abatement asbestos personnel receive a yearly medical examination.

Respiratory Protection
Potomac Abatement has implemented a written respiratory protection program and maintains recordkeeping in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1101(m).  Potomac personnel adheres to OSHA 1926.1101 and the latest update to Respiratory Protection Requirements of 1910.134.
